Modern Turkey was created by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. He was a strong leader who devoted his entire life to the westernization of the Republic of Turkey. Westernization was the main focus of his campaign for a developed nation; however, for Turkey to stand in the growing world, he believed he needed to reach his goals: secularize Turkey, implement reforms, and leave a legacy of strength and knowledge behind as the country's foundation. Atatürk’s ideology, Kemalism, is strongly rooted within the government and society of modern Turkey.
